Celebrating National Women’s Small Business Month

As a certified women-owned and led small business, our team at Pushing the Envelope recognizes the importance of National Women’s Small Business Month to highlight the advancements made by women in business and celebrate women business owners.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), in 2019, women-owned businesses represented 42% of all U.S. businesses and generated $1.9 trillion in revenue. Today, there are more than 13 million women-owned businesses and counting.

It wasn’t always this way… Also, according to the SBA, “In 1972, there were a little over 400,000 women-owned businesses in the United States. Until 1988, women needed a male relative to co-sign if they wanted to apply for a business loan.” It’s hard to believe that was less than 40 years ago and how much headway has been made – but there’s more to do.

We are proud to partner with a few women-owned small businesses and support others and we are using this month as an opportunity to celebrate them and their achievements.

Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Company, P.A. (MNMW) was founded by Gail Markham in 1979 with the goal of offering a different kind of financial services experience. She has since, alongside her eight partners (six of whom are women), grown MNMW to include a full menu of financial services. The firm is consistently listed as a top employer by various organizations, including Florida Trend, and it has been named “Best Accounting Firm” in Gulfshore Business’ Best of Business awards for multiple years.

Salon Adrian is a Fort Myers salon first founded by Jeri Church but now owned by two of her apprentices, Emily Hart and Alana Wilkinson, long-time stylists turned entrepreneurs and business owners. The powerhouse duo leads the salon with an emphasis on creating a luxurious and welcoming experience for their clients, offering only the finest haircare services, treatments, and products.
